CHATHAM — A Chatham design-review committee heard a pre-file pitch to rebuild the Monomoy Yacht Club and Stage Harbor Marina, taking no vote on the project itself. The proposed 13,204-square-foot building would roughly double the footprint of the two existing structures, which together measure about 6,000 square feet, and add five units of year-round workforce housing for marina staff. Committee members repeatedly flagged the building's height, up to 30 feet from an existing 22-foot ridge line, and Bridge Street parking as top concerns, with one member calling the design "too massive." Monomoy Yacht Club past commodore Peter Gaines said the club's roughly 400 members "enthusiastically" received the design in August, while resident Michael Westgate said the building looked "a little bit like Harwich Port" rather than Chatham.
The applicant team said the marina redevelopment, including a new 350-foot seawall and dredging of nearly two acres, requires separate state Chapter 91 and Army Corps of Engineers approvals. The committee's only vote of the meeting was a 5-0 roll call to adjourn.
