Board of Health · Meeting of September 28, 2026
Chatham's Board of Health voted to start fining three noncompliant short-term rental owners $200 a day after months of unanswered notices. Staff presenter Karen told the board the properties at 175 Sam Ryder Road, 20 Cedar Swamp Lane and 44 Pine Drive had been notified monthly since May but never responded, even though listing reviews showed renters stayed there this summer. "Once they start receiving those tickets, they do tend to call me," Karen said of past enforcement.
The board, chaired by Carol Boyce, voted 4-0 to begin fines effective the next day, which Director of Natural Resources Greg Berman's staff confirmed will stop once a property complies. Berman separately announced former health inspector Lucas Amano will return as the town's new health agent on October 8. The board also canceled its October 5 hearing and reset its next meeting for October 19 at 4 p.m.
